MEDIUM: Ink on Rice Scrolls
SHOW LENGTH: October 16th through October 28th, 2009
DESCRIPTION: WAL*ART Gallery presents “Little Snippets of a Bigger Picture”, an exhibition by artist Gene Eu. Gallery Director Jamie Beardsley curates ink drawing on paper scrolls that showcase Eu’s recent works. The exhibition shows from October 16th to October 28th, 2009.
Eu’s ink drawings reflect his desire to honor life, the cosmos and our universal subconscious. Detailed flora and fauna grace the ancient medium of scrolls- from forest creatures to mythic mermaids, gnarled old trees to dynamic underbrush. Eu has honed his penmanship through a druidic study of nature, one that extends beyond his artistic pursuits to his motto, “I believe in honoring the well-being of all living things for their continued existence and that this is my ultimate truth.”
Eu strives to create artwork that can “walk in union” with his sustainable and green life choices and ‘Little Snippets of a Bigger Picture’ is testament to Eu’s passion and ability to do so. The animals used in his images are rarely singular, but rather are featured in groups or mixed-species gatherings while his flora mimic the stunningly natural geometrical patterns present in flowers, leaves, and plants. These harmonic aspects in Eu’s work evoke a renewed sense of community in the viewer through the peace and serenity of a non-human world.
In addition to his fine-art scrolls, Eu produces a green 100% bamboo clothing line featuring many of his drawings. True to his art and lifestyle, this line utilizes organic dyes and is designed, cut, sewn and screen-printed in L.A. by ethical companies taking steps to lessen their environmental impact. He lives and works in Topanga Canyon on a property affectionately called ‘the farm’ with a menagerie of amazing human and animal companions.
WAL*ART Gallery invites the public to come get acquainted with Eu’s work and become part of his vision. For more information, please contact the gallery at 310.274.9055.
